Higher Women Founder, President and CEO, Joan Bryna Michelson, MBA

Joan Bryna Michelson is an award-winning, creative, business and communications leader, public speaker and media personality/journalist.

Pioneering, launching or reinvigorating businesses and organizations with both short-term and long-term success is a hallmark of Joan’s career. She has earned Page One in The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post, top coverage in Time, U.S. News, CNNMoney, "The Today Show," the top pick on Yahoo! and Google.

Joan’s work has included Chrysler’s Global Electric Motorcars, the U.S. Dept. of Energy, Clean Energy Alliance, Earth Day Network, Global Environment Fund, and the National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE), as well as American Express and Deloitte.

An adept public speaker, Joan has appeared at conferences by the NCSE, CalSTART HTUF, U.S. Naval Academy, National Press Club, NIH, National Association of Women Business Owners, Executive Women in Government, Women Impacting Public Policy, Zonta International, and the Small Business Administration Awards.

Joan has a successful digital radio program/podcast series with (mostly women) leaders in energy, called Green Connections, and a Huffington Post blog, and has worked with top media organizations, including CBS (“60 Minutes”), NBC, and ABC. She has also been published on Greenbiz.com, WTOP.com (also on-air), TheAtlantic.com, The New Economy, and The Washington Post, and hosted the livestream for the prestigious VERGE San Francisco conference.

Joan penned an excerpt on women in government leadership in If Women Ruled the World, (pub. 2005, Inner Ocean Pub.) and an excerpt on networking as a tool for innovation in the forthcoming book on Innovation, Flat World Navigation by Kim McDonald Chandler (Kogan Press), and is currently writing on a business book related to HigherWomen coming soon (subscribers will receive a discount). Acting Chief Technology Officer and all things Info Tech, Lynn Lear

Lynn is the Founder, CEO and President of Softek Services, Inc., a 25- year old web development, database and information technology training firm based in Washington, DC. Ms. Lear has twenty five years of management, software training, technical writing, and database/IT consulting experience. She provides oversight and project management of all aspects of Softek’s operations and client projects. Her knowledge of information technology is built on years of experience and various roles as project manager, training manager, database consultant, and software trainer. She recieved her Bachelor of Science in Management and Marketing from George Mason University.

IT Intern, Fangfei (Fei) Lan

Fei recently graduated from American University with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, a second major in Computation Science and a minor in Dance. Grew up in China, Fei was discouraged from pursuing a career in science related subjects. However, she decided to follow her love for mathematics in college. Throughout her undergraduate studies, Fei participated in various scientific research projects and presented her research results at conferences. In this process, Fei realized the gender imbalance in this field and developed a passion for women in science and technology. Working as a software developer at Green Connections Radio, Fei aims to create a platform to assist women like her to find jobs in science and technology.
